Born and raised in Philadelphia, Cha'Yvon Dessus, professionally known as B Swan, is a professional dancer, choreographer, entrepreneur, dance educator, and the Founder and Executive & Artistic Director of BSwan Dance Company and BSwan Dance Center.
Established in 2013, BSwan began as a personal artistic identity and has since evolved into a multifaceted brand encompassing professional dance, choreography, artistic direction, productions, and youth dance education. Through years of dedication, artistic exploration, and entrepreneurship, she has built a brand centered on individuality, creative expression, and the power of movement.
THE ARTIST
BSwan’s artistic foundation is rooted in extensive training in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip-Hop, Modern, and Contemporary Dance. Her early training began at L&L Dance Productions, Young Performers Theatre Camp, and Koresh Youth Ensemble, where she developed a strong technical foundation in classical ballet and modern dance.
Throughout her professional career, she has worked with various dance companies and organizations across the Philadelphia region, expanding her experience as a performer, choreographer, instructor, and artistic leader.
Specializing in Modern and Contemporary Dance, BSwan is the creator of Swanography, her signature movement approach that blends musicality, fluidity, grounded movement, dynamic transitions, technical endurance, storytelling, and individual expression. Her approach challenges dancers to explore movement beyond traditional expectations while discovering and developing their own artistic identities.
THE VISIONARY
In 2017, BSwan founded BSwan Dance Company (BSDC), transforming her artistic vision into a professional performance platform dedicated to creative expression, artistic development, and original productions.
Under her leadership, the company has continued to evolve, producing numerous original works and several sold-out productions. Her artistic direction combines powerful choreography and storytelling, creating experiences that extend beyond traditional dance performances. Through BSDC, she continues to develop dancers as both performers and artists while creating original work that explores individuality, human experiences, and artistic expression.
THE ENTREPRENEUR
In 2022, BSwan expanded her vision by officially opening BSwan Dance Center, establishing a dedicated space for the next generation of dancers.
What began as an extension of her professional brand has developed into a growing youth dance institution focused on technical training, artistic development, discipline, confidence, and performance. BSwan Dance Center reflects her dedication to providing young dancers with an environment where individuality is encouraged, artistic excellence is cultivated, and opportunities for growth extend beyond the classroom. Through both organizations, she continues to develop her vision of creating a lasting institution that supports dancers throughout different stages of their artistic journeys.
RECOGNITION & IMPACT
BSwan’s artistic journey, entrepreneurship, and contributions to the dance community have garnered media recognition, including two features on ABC News. Her appearances include an interview highlighting her professional journey and press coverage of one of her theatrical productions. Her influence extends beyond the stage and into dance education. In addition to leading her own organizations, BSwan serves as a dance educator at The Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA), where she shares her professional experience and artistic approach with aspiring young performers. She was also invited to teach a master class at Temple University, introducing university dance students to Swanography, her signature movement approach.Through professional performance, choreography, education, and entrepreneurship, BSwan continues to create opportunities for dancers while contributing to the artistic development of the next generation. Her work reflects her belief that dance extends beyond technique. It is a powerful form of identity, individuality, storytelling, and creative expression.
